The Story Behind Our Name

The Legend of the Fern Flower

Long ago, in the ancient forests of Eastern Europe, people believed in a mysterious flower that bloomed once a year, on the night of the summer solstice, during Kupala Night (or Midsummer Night). This was a time of celebration and rituals, when the boundary between the human world and the spirit world grew thin. On this night, young men and women would gather to light bonfires, jump over the flames for good fortune, and dance until dawn.

Amidst the celebrations, there was a story of the Fern Flower, a magical blossom said to appear only at midnight, hidden deep within the darkest part of the forest. It was no ordinary flower—unlike most ferns, which do not bloom at all, the fern flower was a rare and radiant bloom. When it appeared, it glowed with a golden or fiery light, illuminating the forest floor around it.

The flower was believed to possess incredible powers. Whoever found the fern flower and plucked it would be blessed with eternal happiness, great wealth, and the ability to understand the language of animals and plants. It could even grant wishes and reveal hidden treasures. But the path to finding the fern flower was fraught with challenges and dangers.

The Quest for the Fern Flower

Many brave souls tried to find the fern flower, but few succeeded. The journey required great courage, as the flower was fiercely guarded by forest spirits and supernatural creatures that sought to keep it hidden from human eyes. It was said that on the night of its bloom, the forest would come alive with whispers, shadows, and strange sounds meant to scare away those who dared to seek the flower.

Only the bravest or the pure of heart could endure these trials and reach the hidden clearing where the fern flower bloomed. To pluck the flower, one had to do so without looking back, no matter what eerie sights or terrifying sounds surrounded them. If the seeker hesitated or turned back, the flower would vanish, and the forest would close around them, leaving them lost until dawn.

The Moral of the Story

Though few ever claimed to have found the fern flower, the story became a symbol of courage, perseverance, and the pursuit of the impossible. It was a reminder that some of the most valuable things in life, like wisdom, understanding, and a deep connection to nature, require patience and a willingness to face the unknown.

Even today, the legend of the fern flower is celebrated in the traditions of Kupala Night, where young people search for it as a way to embrace the mystery and magic of the natural world. While the flower itself may be a myth, the sense of wonder and hope it inspires is very real, encouraging people to look beyond the ordinary and seek the beauty hidden within the world around them.
