Termination

Termination is a sensitive yet necessary part of running a daycare. It’s essential to have a clear and solid termination policy outlined in your Parent Handbook to ensure transparency and consistency. This section provides a termination template and an additional guide for handling termination due to behavior issues.

Why a Clear Policy is Important

Professionalism: Having a documented policy ensures that terminations are handled consistently and fairly.

Transparency: Clear communication with families helps avoid misunderstandings or disputes.

Support for Children: A structured approach allows time and resources to be directed toward helping the child before making the decision to terminate care.

Termination Due to Behavior

Behavior-related termination is a last resort. We believe in documenting issues and collaborating with families to support the child’s development. Below are the steps we follow:

  1. Document the Behavior:

    • Keep detailed records of incidents, including dates, times, and descriptions of the behavior.

  2. Communicate with Families:

    • Discuss the behavior concerns openly with the family and share documentation.

  3. Develop a Care Plan:

    • Create a care plan with specific goals and strategies to address the behavior.

    • Include a clear timeline (typically 1 month) for improvement.

  4. Monitor Progress:

    • Track the child’s behavior during the care plan period.

  5. Termination:

    • If no significant improvement is observed by the end of the care plan, a written notice of termination will be issued.
