Campfires can be an enriching and memorable experience for children, offering opportunities for storytelling, cooking, and connecting with nature. However, safety and proper training are essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

To host a campfire in your Nature School, you MUST hold a Forest School Level 3 Certification. This ensures you are trained in fire safety, risk assessment, and proper supervision.
At Fern Flower – Nature School, safety is our top priority. Our comprehensive Fire Safety Policy ensures all fire activities are conducted responsibly, with proper training, equipment, and guidelines. From setup to extinguishing, every step is carefully planned for a safe and enriching experience.
Fire Safety Policy and Procedures
Purpose: Ensure safe and responsible campfire activities.
Checklist:
Clear the site of debris and hazards; create a 1m fire circle with clear entrances/exits.
Confirm fire is permitted (check bans and weather).
Have safety equipment: water bucket, first aid kit, fire tools, gloves, kindling, and wood.
A second educator must be present. The leader must hold Forest School Level 3 Training.
